For Such A Time As This

February 01, 2021
By Doris Plummer

Every time I enter the common area of the high school building, my eyes fall on the poster that reads, “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”  In recent weeks, it has made me smile… bringing to mind one of our own staff who has become known on campus as our “Covid Queen.”  Who would have guessed a year ago that we would need a brave soul to monitor cases, trace contacts, and make those visits to classrooms or calls to homes to say that life for the next two weeks will be very different?  It’s a position for which we did not advertise, and really one that most people would not have sought.  Yet, our covid queen was appointed to her position “for such a time as this,” and she has faithfully carried out her duties with grace and compassion for all of us.  Many thanks, Nikki Eagle, for your service in these difficult days.

Who have you been called to serve?  Yes, I truly believe that God has people in your sphere of influence whose lives need to be impacted.  They become your mission field, whether nearby  or far away. God calls all of us to jobs in His Kingdom that will make a difference.  As I look at our faculty and staff, I realize the countless stories of people whom God has called to join in the work here.  Some have relocated to do so.  Some have changed careers to do so.  Some have made considerable sacrifices to do so.  But in each case, the call was accepted “for such a time as this.”  And whether they are here for a few years or for a lifetime, God places His calling on those who are available to serve.

I also look at alumni, currently serving in many countries around the world, whose lives of service may have actually begun in a Bible class or chapel or doing community service here.  They are a beautiful extension of our campus into “the uttermost parts of the earth.”  What a privilege to be a part of their story!

As we continue living in these interesting days, I challenge you to seek God’s divine appointments for your daily life.  Where is He placing you, and what is He equipping you to do?  Perhaps you are being called to perform outside of your comfort zone…. Are you willing?  Just ask Nikki… you may never imagine how God may use your willing spirit!

Minds:
Consider the gifts with which God has blessed you, as well as the opportunities that He has opened for you.  To what special assignment is He calling you?

Hearts:
Pray for our students to have the hearts to realize their gifting and opportunities.  They can definitely be the chosen generation to make a difference in the world.
