Band

The NHCS Band program began in 2013 and today, our program involves over 70 students from 6th grade to 12th grade, making our band one of the largest in the county. Our band students participate in five ensembles:

  • 6th Grade Beginning Band

  • Middle School Concert Band

  • High School Symphonic Band

  • Percussion Ensemble

  • Marching Band  (7th grade - 12th grade)

Similar to the chorus program, band students are able to experience and learn many different musical genres, music theory, musical history and the various types of instruments. The band program gives the participating students the opportunity to work together as a team to accomplish goals.

The NHCS instrumental ensembles perform in a variety of concerts and festivals annually. Those include the Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, ASCI Music Festival in Charlotte and the Carowinds Music Festival.

In 2015 and 2016 the NHCS band students participated in the ACSI solo and ensemble festival in Charlotte, NC. Both years NHCS had the largest number of student participants in the solo and ensemble sections. Moreover, the percussion ensemble has a perfect “4-0” record with four straight “Superior” ratings over a two - year span.

In the spring of 2016 the our band performed for the first time in the Carowinds Music Festival. In 2017 the NHCS Symphonic Band is performed in the Williamsburg/Busch Gardens Music Festival as part of the nationally recognized Music in the Parks Music Festival. NHCS performs for ratings as well as competition with bands, orchestras, jazz bands and choirs from across the southeastern United States. The students perform a concert march and two selections from the NCMEA MPA music list for three professional music adjudicators.

In 2018, upper school band students will perform in an inaugural marching band.
