School Camp Opportunities

Summer Therapy Camp During the Month of July Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. Ages 2-10   For two summers Footprints in the Community has offered Rowan County's only inclusive therapy-based summer camp to serve children with special needs. Special education and therapy services are designed to assist children with special needs with their learning and development. During the summer the camp children increased skills in at least one service area (speech, fine motor, gross motor, academics).    Last summer, during the second camp, 100% of campers with special needs increased skills in two of four areas, 50% of campers with special needs (7 out of 14) increased skills in three of four area, and  29% of campers with special needs (4 out of 14) increased skills in all four areas. The camp serves preschool/early elementary school students with special needs and includes typically developing children as peer models. The peer models both help the students developmentally and learn from the experience.    To register or for more information, contact Jeannie Ogg, 704-636-3005, ext. 130.         (FIE) Train Your Brain See the article in the Salisbury Post   June 9-13 & July 14-18 Monday - Friday   Grades 4th - 12th   A new brain-training program at North Hills Christian School (NHCS) is challenging the notion that intelligence is fixed and cannot be improved. The Feuerstein's Instrumental Enrichment (FIE) program used by North Hills Christian provides therapies that train the brain to function more fully and consistently-it targets cognitive struggles of students and teaches new ways to approach problems, and the most effective ways to solve them.     To register or for more information, contact Jeannie Ogg, 704-636-3005, ext. 130.
